New Picture Book Sparks Kids’ Interest in Languages

(Allentown, PA, March 4th, 2011) Guardian Angel Publishing recently announced the publication of a new picture book for children ages 5 to9, entitled CLIP-CLOP, TIPPITY-TAP: FRENCH VOCABULARY ON THE FARM, by author and photographer, Kim Chatel, and illustrated by Kathleen Bullock.

Kim Chatel’s books for children always include something extra: how-to crafts, tips on photography, or choose-your-own adventures. In this case, children (and parents) will learn French phrases and vocabulary while reading about Mini-moi, the miniature pony from Ferme LaPomme. The text includes a glossary of terms (including French animal sounds) and a pronunciation guide.

Mini-moi is only six hands tall. He wants to work on the farm like the big horses, but he’s too small. When Mini-moi runs away he finds a whole menagerie of animals in need. Children will delight in the animal antics as Mini-moi discovers that even little ones can be big helpers.

Born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, Kim Chatel struggled her whole life to learn French. CLIP-CLOP, TIPPITY-TAP is to her Grandmaman, Yvette Brunet. Yvette was a young woman during the Depression and never finished school. Despite that, she taught herself English, by reading magazines like National Geographic as well as biographies of famous historical figures. Kim Chatel and award-winning children’s author, now residing in Orefield, PA. Kathleen Bullock, is primarily a writer and illustrator of children’s books. Her picture book credits include the popular IT CHANCED TO RAIN and A SURPRISE FOR MITZI MOUSE, both published by Simon & Schuster. She currently lives in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with her family. She has illustrated more than 200 titles for an educational publisher, including the well-received PUZZLE IT! series. Bullock is a recipient of an ABA Before Columbus Award for illustration, and a prize winner in the 2008 Surrey International Writing Competition. Her first novel for juveniles, FAR CORNERS, has just been published by Diversion Press, and her second novel, the YA fantasy THE END OF DOMINION, will be published by L&L Dreamspell in 2011.
