for the Lehigh Valley Zoo

In beautiful Lehigh Valley, PA there is a little zoo that brings joy to many people. The photos in my picture book, A Talent for Quiet, were shot at the nature preserve surrounding this zoo. Zoo keepers bring animals to schools and outreach programs to teach about biology and ecology. Children benefit from camps and sleep-overs at the zoo.

Last year, the county narrowly voted to keep funding this zoo for another five  years, and I realized how easily we could lose such a valuable resource for our community. That’s when I decided to get involved with ZooBASH 2010 a major fundraiser for the Lehigh Valley Zoo. I have always been amazed at the generosity of the online writing community, so I wasn’t surprised when I put out a call for book donations for our zoo. Many authors sent their well-wishes and books for the ZooBASH auction on October 23rd, 2010. Between now and that time, I will attempt to review all the books I receive. You can keep track of my progress by the list to the right. Thank you to all the authors who helped to make ZooBASH 2010 a success!
